With warmer weather coming up, many of you may be planning a bar-b-que or a trip to one of the nearby lakes. We just want to take this opportunity to remind you that chicken bones and steak bones should not be fed to dogs; and that your baited hook should be kept well out of your pet's reach. All too often, we are called upon to remove a lodged bone from the esophagus, or a lodged hook (often a treble hook) from the esophagus or stomach, using endoscopy. We've even been called upon to remove corn cobs, so do be careful that your pets don't get into any food that they shouldn't have access to. Endoscopy is much less invasive than surgery, but certainly is not something that you want to have done if you can avoid it. So, be careful, and enjoy the upcoming holiday!
